Muslim perfoms last rite of Pandit's in Ganderbal

The Muslims in Wussan area of Ganderbal district performed the last rites of a Kashmiri Pandit on Sunday.


Moti Lal Razdan, 65, of Wussan died Sunday morning. He was residing since 1984 with few other families of Pandit community in the Muslim majority area here.


Locals said the Muslims of the area performed the last rites of the deceased and mourned his death as one of their own. He was cremated at Wussan.


"We shouldered his coffin and arranged for wood for his cremation,” the local Muslims said, adding that “we feel we have lost one of our own.”


“He was just like my elder brother and I used to take suggestions from him before taking any step", Sheikh Bashir, a local said.


 “We have shared joys and sorrows with him and we feel like our own family member has passed away,” another local said.


"To help a neighbour irrespective of his/her religion is duty of every Muslim” a local Ghulam Nabi said.


Meanwhile few Kashmiri Pandits who had arrived to help the bereaved family expressed gratitude to the local Muslims.
